In 1866 Crime and Punishment was published by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The story follows the character of Rodion Raskolnikov who lives in St. Petersburg Russia.
As the story progresses, Rodion is shown to live out two different personalities; an intellectual and detached one, and one that is more compassionate. He eventually unravels mentally as his morality crumbles, and the narrative follows his psyche as he wrestles with his guilt and feelings of superiority.
The cover design I created depicts Rodion looking into his reflection that shows the person he sees himself as. This digital painting, which is rough, jagged, and gloomy, symbolizes the mental, physical, and emotional state Rodion finds himself in.
